Taking into account the healthier option mentality of the San Franciscans, we thought we'd walk to the Golden Gate Bridge... now, when I say it's a good walk I really mean, don't do it! It's miles and miles away from the centre of town and, on this particular morning, we were walking into the fog that apparently normally prevails over the area surrounding the bridge. SF is a microclimate - surrounded by water on all sides. It can be foggy and drizzly in the 50s while, 15 miles away, in Oakland it will be sunny and in the 80s! Everything we'd read advised us to dress in layers, but being Brits we thought it meant net petticoats and liberty bodices (maybe that was just me and probably not Neal). Anyway, scorching hot one minute and biting cold winds the next - it's surprising to say the least. We got some pictures on the way of crooked Lombard Street, some little yellow electric cars with loud instructions - very bossy - always telling the driver which way to go but giving some good historical information about each district on the way and some people on segways showing us just how embarrassed we'll look when we do it in San Diego (there's no escape because it's already booked).
On and on we walked and I thought we'd never see the bridge but, like a shy bride hiding behind her wedding veil, she eventually showed herself through the white mist... but it was more of now you see me, now you don't...
its all fabulous guys....really really smashing to do this blog.....keeps me with you somehow.....san diego next then ?
