We had the complimentary breakfast at the hotel (at last, something free) and headed off to Imperial Beach. I'd got some details from the internet about a condo there. Only one little itty bitty troublesome nugget of information - in certain weather conditions the beach is contaminated by sewerage from the Tijuana river. Beautiful as it is, and with not many people about (I wonder why) we decided against it. There were people surfing at the northern end of the beach but once you've heard that word 'contaminated' it rather puts one orff!

From Imperial, we headed off to Coronado which is where Some Like It Hot was filmed. The Hotel Del Coronado (or The Del) is a marvellous piece of architecture and recognisable from the film (to me at least). Tony Curtis sitting in the beach chair talking like Cary Grant to Marilyn Monroe - it doesn't get much better! Anyway, it was far too expensive for us and the whole area is a bit 'Wilmslow' (for our friends in Cheshire) but I'm glad we went to see it.
Now, to get back to San Diego, we have to drive over this bridge - our pictures do not tell the full story but I'm saying nothing after Yosemite!

| Obviously we didn't take this as we don't have access to a helicopter |
Off we went to Mission Beach where I had other details for condos. This was all very tiring and we ended up back at the information centre in San Diego and booked into the Beach Surfer Hotel for the night. The cleaning had been imaginative around the sink area but apart from that, the beds were great, there was a decent shower (no bath) and a view of the Pacific ocean - with a deafening sound track of waves rolling and crashing to the shoreline.
me .....the bridge.......NO!
