DAY FIVE - 19 April 2011: iPad dilemma, leaving SF - Berkeley & Mendocino/Fort Bragg

Well, what can you do... when you hear that the Apple store just around the corner is having a delivery of iPad2 and they're over £100 less than they cost in the UK, you're going to get yourself up out of bed, get dressed and head off down to the queue at 4.30am in the morning (of course you are)... well, that's if your name is Neal. The only way forward after that is to hire a car from the Dollar Company (it's about what their cars are worth) and launch yourself onto the Streets of San Francisco in an automatic car that won't take any shit from you whatsoever let alone instructions via hand or foot. Anyway, off we went without satnav because why would anybody need that when they're in completely unknown territory without a clue which way to go...?
Across the Bay Bridge in the driver's specially chosen eye wear, and into Berkeley where we'd heard Betty's Diner was an excellent place to stop (yes, more food related blogging!)..
Stuffed to the gills with Betty's wonderful food, we headed off on the freeway to who knows where.  Stopped off at Healdsburg (http://www.healdsburg.com/) for a quick break where the people were impossibly friendly and everything looked as if it came straight out of Stepford Wives - very buffed and polished women gliding around doing 'antiquing', wine tasting and shopping (Ty got a little pressie from Fideaux - a shop specialising in clothing for dogs!) and then we drove on to Fort Bragg and booked into the Ocean View Lodge with a fantastic view of ... yes, the ocean!

Oh, in case you're wondering - no we didn't get an iPad2 - they only had ones compatible AT&T! (damn!)

  2. Hi Haze... it's great to see your comments. All the food we've had here has been absolutely gorgeous... apart from the expensive veggie restaurant (which was a big mistake) we've had great meals - everything so fresh, superbly cooked and served with pride. The service is amazing and the portions are far too big but they keep you going all day. Only downside is that a tip is always expected and it's around 18% - 20% itemised at the end of your bill so that you can decide which one you want to give. Still, having a great time and will post another blog for today tomorrow (if you see what I mean!
